He taught her everything she knows especially to fly. She owns her own little Cessna and flies volunteers for Hope International, a charity that sends Dentists, Doctors, and any other volunteers to where they're needed. Lyndie is very good at being alone, about not showing emotions and not getting attached to anyone or any place but somehow this little town in Mexico and its inhabitants have her tied up pretty good. When a forest fire threatens to burn down the whole town she has to bring someone that will help them. They can't loose everything when they barely have anything to begin with.Griffin is a hot shot firefighter. Fighting forest fires has been his whole life, he loved it. Until a year ago he lost 12 men, his best friend included. Suffering the loss made him want to disappear leaving behind his old life, his family, his friends. His brother Brady is tired of missing hum so he finds him and forces him to work as a volunteer to fight a forest fire in a small town in Mexico. He's reluctant because he's not ready yet. But somehow he's blackmailed and pushed by his little brother so he ends up in a small plane with a pixie of a woman headed to he'll.
What Lyndie and Griffin find in Mexico is more than either thought they would find. With so many issues will they be able to get past that and find themselves? Past the demons that haunt them?
Very nice story!

I really liked this book. Griffin and Brody are red hot, especially Griffin. I was less drawn to Lyndie. Too much of her being withdrawn and protective of herself. It started to get on my nerves. Griffin was the greatest. Hot alpha male working his way through a horrible experience. The suspense added a lot to the story but probably could have even been delved into deeper. This book is worth the read.
I LOVE Firefighter Heroes, and I LOVE Jill Shalvis. This book didn't dissapoint.I LOVED Lyndie and Griffin. And Lucifer the kitten? Adorable.I LOVED that Lyndie was a KICK-BUTT pilot. The only reason, I gave the book 3 stars is because, aside from Grif's brother Brody, and Nina, I had a hard time getting into the secondary characters. Unlike her Lucky Harbor or Animal Magnetism series. Still enjoyed it though.
I read Jill's firefighter series out of order-not that it mattered. In a way, I'm glad I did. It took me a little longer to fall for protagonists Lyndie and Griffin, but when I did, I fell hard. As with each of her stories, Jill creates an amazing cast of characters, and White Heat delivers here as well. Brody and Nina's love story is endearing and a beautiful counterbalance for Lyndie and Griffin's more angsty fall. Another go-to on my electronic bookshelf.
I am an avid Jill Shalvis fan and was excited to find a series I hadn't seen yet. It was unusually tortuous to finish this book, the initial non stop action gave way to long musings and I just couldn't get into the main characters or the extremely heavy backstory. I'll give the second book in the series a shot, I'm hoping it was just a one off fluke that I didn't get into this one.
I just love all her books and can't wait to start the next one!!!!! This is about a firefighter fighting himself about getting back into living life because of the guilt he feels after surviving a fire that took so many of his friends.
I didn't realize that this was a book that I originally read back in 2004 - and enjoyed - when I started reading it again recently. I have enjoyed firefighting novels and movies since I first saw the movie Always back in 1989.
I liked "White Heat" the first time around and this time, with solitary, lonely pilot Lyndie Anderson and troubled hotshot firefighter Griffin Moore. Both are fighting their inner demons as they also fight the wildfire threatening one of Lyndie's favorite places - Mexican village San Puebla. I liked San Puebla and the quaint Rio Vista Inn there and wish I could visit there.
The book alternates chapters, letting the reader experience the story from Lyndie and Griffin's POV (among others).
NOTE There are some steamy sex scenes (though not as hot as author Shalvis' later books).
This is much better than many of Jill Shalvis' books. The heroine and hero are both well developed, the firefighting details seem well researched, and the plot mostly hung together. There are a couple of annoying side characters, particularly Nina, the daughter of one of the townspeople. She plans to teach English despite not reading it well. One of her other ambitions is to teach Spanish to children in San Diego so they can understand their heritage. How about teaching English to adults so they can get a driver's license or a better job? But whatever, she and Griffin's brother were annoying and made the book less enjoyable for me.
